MOPTIL is a Greek high-tech scale-up founded in 2014 and headquartered in Athens, specializing in Virtual and Augmented Reality (AR/VR) solutions for cultural heritage and tourism. Operating at the intersection of tourism, culture and tech, the company has developed an innovative AI based real time traslation web App designed for groups and develops immersive digital experiences that bring archaeological sites, museums, and historic landmarks to life, engaging audiences worldwide.
MOPTIL has developed the first green AI based real time translation web App for Tourism, the award-winning DIGIPAST application for Tourism, deployed at thirteen archaeological sites and experienced by more than 500,000 visitors. In partnership with COSMOTE, it also launched the COSMOTE CHRONOS app, which has exceeded 500,000 downloads. Internationally, the company has deployed and operated digital tours and interactive cultural applications in Spain (with more than 50k visitors), Italy, and Malta, leveraging VR, AR, 3D modeling, and artificial intelligence technologies.
The company’s multidisciplinary teams collaborate with UNESCO monuments, leading museums, and global tourism partners such as the Benaki Museum and TUI. MOPTIL participates in European R&D initiatives, is an EGG – enter•grow•go alumnus, and was one of the original members of the Greek Tourism Cluster for start-ups in the tourism and technology industries, reinforcing its role as a pioneer in immersive cultural innovation.
Michael Kokkinos, CEO and Founder MOPTIL
Mr. Michael Kokkinos studied Naval Architect and Marine Engineering in the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA).He has also an MSc in Communication Systems and Signal processing and an MBA (NTUA). He has several publications in Industrial and Scientific Papers and Magazines. He has a work experience of more than 20 years in IT and Telecom industry, working since 2001 as engineer, Product Manager and Commercial Director in Greek Telecom, Space Hellas and other companies. In 2014 he found his own company Moptil (Mobile Optical Illusions), which is an innovation Start- Up that develops VR and AR experiences for Heritage. In 2017 Mr. Kokkinos won the 3 rd prize of Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs in E.U. He speaks fluently Greek, English and Spanish and he has good knowledge of French and German. He is the President of the Hellenic- Spanish Chamber of Commerce since 2020, member of the Technical Chamber of Greece since 1999 and member of the Sectorial Scientific Council for Tourism, Culture and Creative Industries (Ministry of Development). Mr. Michael Kokkinos has a volunteering participation in Axion Hellas (NGO) as a regular member, an organization with a huge humanitarian activity in Greece. He has been elected as a board member of the Greek Tourism Cluster leaded by Egg incubator of Eurobank.
